Age is just a number baby! Here's why you should chase quality at every age...

I refuse to play into age as a metric for measuring your quality of movement, life or how far ahead you are...
I have worked with people of all ages and stages of life and I really have heard it all. Every excuse, every justification and every limiting belief. It's normal to reach road blocks and limitations in your thinking... at any age! It's easy to find reasons that back up your limiting thoughts and beliefs but let's be honest, that's not exactly high quality. To live with limitations sucks and I don't know about you but I would like to continue living a high quality life and that includes breaking through the barriers to quality movement and training.
I have spent a large portion of my life chasing the extraordinary. I have experienced a lot in my short life. With those experiences have come some of the highest highs and lowest lows so I feel qualified to share that I am becoming a little more biased towards appreciating the simple things in life. That also means I am far more interested in quality above all else and the same goes for the way I approach coaching and programming for my clients.
Here are the 3 main limitations I hear on a daily basis and why they're blocking you from quality...
Typically people in their 20s: "I don't need coaching. I downloaded this program and my boyfriend/friend is training with me and helping me". Why this is blocking you from quality: Chances are, the program you downloaded includes a bunch of movement patterns that you're likely to perform incorrectly because you don't have any guidance and unless your boyfriend or friend has studied to be a Personal Trainer or worked extensively with a coach themselves, they probably don't have the skillset or knowledge to be able to recognise incorrect form and coach you effectively.
Typically people in their 30-40s: "The gym doesn't work for me. I tried so many times. I've been to so many classes and worked with a trainer before a couple of times but it just isn't for me." Why this is blocking you from quality: There are so many ways you can move your body that are beneficial. I always say - the best place to start if you're not moving your body daily is to start going for a 30-60min walk. Preferably in the sunshine and outdoors so you can tick a few boxes for your health at the same time. The other activity I suggest is pilates because it's also a low intensity way to move that helps you develop strength in the key areas. However, once these have been implemented, you'll likely reach a plateau or find you're getting bored. Humans need variety too! So you're probably doing yourself a disservice and missing out what's actually possible simply because of some negative past experiences or your lack of follow through #hardtruth. Chances are - the reason classes didn't work for you is because you didn't have enough personal guidance to get quality out of the exercises being performed and if you worked with a trainer, maybe they weren't the right trainer for you. Anybody can go get their Cert 4 in Fitness and become a PT but if they don't do any further education, their knowledge is going to be capped. Find a coach who has invested in their own knowledge, skill development and who inspires you. The way they program and support you will probably be higher calibre and sure, it may be more expensive but you're paying for QUALITY, which is ultimately the point I am getting at here.
Typically people in their 50s: "I feel like I have missed the boat. I am embarrassed I let myself get to this point. I wish I had started when I was in my 20s! It's too late." Why this is blocking you from quality: You've heard this before but I mean it... it's never too late to start! Sure, you may need to be a little braver and break through a few extra limiting beliefs you've picked up over the years but in all honesty, it's my clients in this bracket that tend to get the most rapid results! I frequently put myself into programs, courses and experiences where I know I am going to be the worst in the room. Why? Because it means I am also going to be the one who gets the most out of it. Same goes here! So the moral of the story is that no matter what age you are or what excuse is getting in your way, you're doing yourself a disservice listening to the limitations and your ego. Lean into the quality that is actually possible if you break through these limits and take action. This is why I coach and why I work with coaches myself. Education and implementation of the education is the key to quality movement a quality life and a coach is a great way to fast-track this experience and call you out on the BS that's getting in your way. As they say "you'll never regret the actions you take more than the ones you didn't" Sincerely, Shenoa xx
